Fourth Month Of Pregnancy Diet

The fourth month also means the beginning of the second trimester of pregnancy. This is the period when your body gets relieved of nausea, headache and other awful sensations and you start feeling more active and energetic. This is also the time when you can start feeling the movements of your little one inside you. Most of the baby’s organs get fully functional by this month. At this stage, your body works towards calcifying the baby’s bones and further developing all the organs. The diet during this stage should be more focused on nourishment and growth. Here are some foods that you can include in your fourth month of pregnancy diet.

What To Eat

1. Iron-Rich Foods:

The fetus grows at a rapid pace during this stage. Hence, it requires more iron. Having more iron in your diet helps the baby to grow better. Consider having foods like eggs, nuts, whole wheat and dried fruits. Also, consider a visit to the doctor for additional iron supplements.

2. High Fiber food:

Foods like whole grains and green vegetables have high fiber content. These are essential for the fourth month of pregnancy diet. This kind of foods will help you get rid of constipation during the later stages of pregnancy. Therefore, make sure to include them in your daily diet.

3. Milk Products:

Calcium intake is very crucial for the development of stronger bones in the baby. Add at least one litre of dairy product to your daily diet. You can opt from a wide range of milk products and try all of them to find out which one suits you best. 

4. Seasonal Fruits:

This is something that is essential throughout the pregnancy period. Fruits have lots of vitamins and minerals and are also rich in fiber. Prefer seasonal fruits of various colours during this month of pregnancy.

5. Fatty Acids:

Consume foods like freshwater fish, olive oil and nuts. This kind of food contains essential fatty acids like omega 3, 6, and 9. This lowers the risk of cognitive retardation in the baby and keeps you safe from premature labor.

What to avoid

1. Seafood:

Seafood is loaded with harmful methylmercury. This is a compound that causes mental retardation in the fetus. Therefore, avoid consuming any kind of seafood at this stage. Eat freshwater fish instead which are not harmful to you or the baby.

2. Soft cheese:

This kind of cheese is often prepared from unpasteurized milk. It may contain harmful bacteria and viruses. Hard cheese, on the other hand, has low water content and is, therefore, less likely to contain harmful bacteria and viruses.

3. Dry fruits:

Dry fruits are good for health. But, too much consumption of dry fruits can make cause untimely contractions. Be certain to have them in moderation and you will be fine.

4. Junk food:

Junk food is no good for health. Besides, there is no guarantee of cleanliness while these are prepared. This kind of food can carry disease germs and when you eat them, you and your baby become vulnerable to many kinds of diseases.
